[A Volkswagen Beetle in Search of Milk and Honey] is a piece of Tan’s A World of Temptations Series.

This work features the totem as enigmatic as its title. The reverse out in the left half of the composition reveals the shape of a Volkswagen Beetle, while the right half is covered with lace-like patterns. The Volkswagen Beetle is in search of the promised milk and honey, which alludes to the heaven on Earth it yearns for.

According to The Book of Exodus, there was honey and milk in the Promised Land. In this work, the flower not only suggests women’s breasts, but also symbolizes milk and honey. The Volkswagen Beetle epitomizes the search, while divinity corresponds to desires.
