Possess Position / Misplace Union

The series of “Possess Position / Misplace Union” generally present the intent of opposed-tech. Tech was undoubtedly a primary to me for the works before this series, since my works of “opposition” and “interconnection” were accomplished mainly by an accurate, sensitive instinct in art that was a matter of excellent operation by tech. However, in the works of “Possess Position / Misplace Union”, tech became a secondary issue; as the critical key to structure those works has been no longer the tech but the moment while the works getting down. There’s no certain limitation to complete a work, all depend on the instant temper the worker inclines towards. 

Inner [Possess Position / C0213](定位/C0213) the left rectangle, my accustomed vocabularies no longer appear, and nor my familiar techniques before as drop, wipe, apply, scrape, etc. but the most conventional paintbrush to picture. Strokes on the drawings seemingly look quite unadorned without high-skill or modeling scraps with exact designation, but only sincerely emotional tracks remain. Such expressionism with no featured effect or elaborate coincidence comprises more human nature. Simple paintbrush with innocent stroke being followed with merely a hand’s feel could tell “a tech without any tech”. The series of “Possess Position / Misplace Union” reduces a lot of requirement to tech, that doesn’t mean I abandon or object it, the tech in creations of this period should be a nature condition that is unnecessarily outstood or emphasized; namely, a mature skill ought to be revealed invisibly.

[Misplace Union / C0216](錯合/C0216) is a picture constructed by 3 strip rectangles with equal dimension that a red square slightly inclines to the left in the place of close to center and an oblique line respectively from upper two ends extended to bottoms with disproportional left and right. The major measures of drops flow and streaks in both rectangles interlace the tight and compact pictures showing rather standout comparing to the simple geometric diagram in the center.

Protesting formalism in the stand under the roof of itself is exactly what the works of “Possess Position / Misplace Union” would like to mention. Look back the productions in the past years, from “Black in Black” “White in White” completed in the term of study in Paris, “Colorful Figuration and Color” “Colorful Appearance and Color” worked in the time after return to Taiwan, to “Dislocation / Snap” created couple years earlier, all could see my attempt and practice of gradual exploration, refutation, liberation and harmony. From the creation of “Opposition/Interconnection”, I initially posed a mature aspect in my personally artistic works. In the series of “Possess Position / Misplace Union” continuously developed in the latest years, I would rather look forward to seeking a spirit based on the framework that emerges closer to “Tao” of Chinese tradition. The so-called “the Nature of Tao”, in the skeleton of formalism, would lead me to sublimate up to a higher level in the tech I used to focus on, and the process of experiencing through the way to be achieved by performed creations one by one.
